Like rich, navy oil paint marbled with white pigment, streaming and cinema have mixed to make a masterpiece. For the first time, Apple TV will launch Martin Scorsese’s new movie ‘Flowers of the Killer Moon’ in May after its world premier at Festival de Cannes.

The movie takes us into the fire behind the events that lead to the conception of the FBI. It began when oil was discovered in 1920’s Oklahoma by an American Indian community. At the time their rapidly acquired wealth, worthy of royalty, afforded Osage Nation to become the most affluent tribe in the world. However, their good fortune was short lived as one by one, Osage nation, began disappearing.

A full investigation unfolded what was at the root of the murders. Disturbing evidence unearthed the motives. Profit and greed were what drove the criminals responsible for one of the most covert serial killings in American history.Jacqueline West is the costume designer for ‘Flowers of a Killer Moon’ and along with DiCaprio feels this is Scorsese’s best work. “I was talking to Leo about it, “she told Richard Peña, Columbia University professor of film studies, (Doha Film Institute.)

“We had lunch before I came here and Leo just told me, ‘Jackie, I think we worked on a masterpiece’. He doesn’t say that lightly. He has been in the business since he was a little boy.” West has been close to DiCaprio ever since their collaboration on ‘The Revenant,’ paving the way for the stellar work coming to fruition in this highly anticipated film release.

The artful vision Scorsese is renowned for has attracted other heavy hitters; Robert Di Niro, Oscar winning Brendon Fraser and Jesse Plemons (Power of the Dog) also star in the movie. ‘Flowers of the Killer Moon’ mark the sixth collaboration between Leonardo DiCaprio and Martin Scorsese. Their working partnership began with 2002’s ‘Gangs of New York,’ which took DiCaprio into the next four films directed by Scorsese.

‘Flowers of the Killer Moon’ will also mark the 10th film Scorsese and Robert De Niro have worked on together since ‘Casino’ and ‘The Irishman.’ Other cast members include John Lithgow, Sturgill Simpson, Jason Isbell (A Star is Born) and Lily Gladstone. This crescendo of talent bringing to life an important piece of history has already garnered Oscar buzz for 2024. For full plot line and official trailer check out shortform.com
